How it started

Three sisters named Amy, Shelley (twins) & Lisa (1,5 year older) grew up in a small town in The Netherlands & discovered they had a passion for singing and performing very early on. Singing along with TV commercials & movies, doing little dances for their family, running towards any street artist, it was part of their DNA.

At the early age of 11 & 12 y/o they did their first singing project as a group, making them win the national Junior Eurovision. They landed a record deal and released multiple youth-focused singles and albums. Growing up in the public eye was exciting and full of opportunity, but also brought some personal challenges. After a short break to focus on their studies, these harmony-creating sisters got scouted for The Voice of Holland in 2014.

Making a name

They won, instantly putting their new band name OGENE on the map. Large tv-shows and countless gigs followed in their home country. A big highlight happened in 2017, as they participated in the Eurovision Song Contest, exactly 10 years after debuting the kids edition.

Touring sold-out theaters was their biggest occupation for years. Performing a mix of both covers & songs from their own repertoire with a live band, concert-like staging and lighting, they brought a new, younger generation into the theater. During the pandemic, they performed popular streaming concerts and viral cover videos, earning praise from artists like members of Earth, Wind & Fire, Queen and Dolly Parton.

This period of time also inspired something else; the sisters reflected on their journey and realized they had yet to fully explore their own identities on personal and musical level. They lacked experience creating their own music, as they had primarily performed songs written by others. This realization led them to take control of their musical journey, aiming for complete creative freedom.

New direction: embracing creative freedom

The process spanned nearly three years, allowing them to experiment with sounds and themes that resonated personally. Cutting ties with several previous professional partners, they moved on independently. “We wanted to make music without thinking about what would appeal to a certain audience or fit radio formats”.

In 2025, OGENE released Garden of Hera, their first concept album, sounding significantly different from their previous work. The album is built around the Greek myth of the Hesperides—three sister nymphs of the evening known for their enchanting voices. The mythological reference aligns with their identity as sisters and vocal harmonists, symbolizing their journey into a new artistic realm.

Looking ahead, the group is extremely excited to introduce Garden of Hera to international audiences that value emotional depth, creative authenticity, and genre-blending music with rich harmonies and a bold artistic vision.

Their upcoming performance at Poppodium 013 in Tilburg on May 22, 2025, will showcase the album live for the first time, signaling the beginning of their global musical journey.

“It was necessary to change the creative narrative to fuel our musical energy”
